Thanks to the hard work of breeders, isolated cultures of natural varieties of cannabis are extremely rare. However, the difference in the strength and plane of the development of psychoactive effects encourages lovers of active hype to buy marijuana sativa seeds. But these are not all the differences between sowing cannabis and Indian cannabis.
From the three basic varieties of hemp, breeders have created the full range of commercial marijuana varieties. But in the course of combining genetics of different types, there was such a mixing of genetic material that is practically unattainable in nature. New, fantastically potent strains have flooded the seedbank catalogs, but any seed store will always highlight a small section that features crops with dominant genetics of one type or another.
In appearance, cannabis sativa seeds are virtually indistinguishable from Indian hemp. The only exception is the commonly seen mosaic pattern on Cannabis Indica beans. But since this difference does not appear in 100% of the seeds, the more correct decision is to focus on the description of the seed from the seed bank.
A fundamentally different degree of difference can be distinguished when studying the appearance of cannabis bushes.
Based on Academician Vavilov's scientific research on the history of the domestication of Cannabis Sativa, information about the differences in cannabis varieties will be more thoroughly absorbed and remembered more firmly.
Cannabis Sativa translates as Seed Cannabis, and according to genetic code studies, within this subspecies there is a taxon Spontanea Vav, which can be translated as "Wild". It has almost no THC, but the plants produce the toughest stems and fibers. The distribution area was originally much further north than Indian hemp, so cannabis sativa seeds immediately after germination spent most of their energy on developing a powerful root system. Only after the bush has access to nutrients and water, the plant begins a turbulent vegetative period.
Therefore, if you buy seeds where sativa dominates in genetics, you can speed up the start of vegetative development with skillful actions. To do this, the shoot must be provided with easy access to water and mineral elements, but at the same time, not forgetting that a tall bush must have deep roots for strong fixation in the ground.
IMPORTANT: At this stage of development, seeds with a predominantly Sativa genetic often need to be helped to "throw off the helmet". This is a specific term familiar to growers after 1st practice cycle. The fact is that sativa seeds have a thicker and denser shell. The root pierces it and, straightening up, orients itself inward, but such a small plant does not have enough remnants of strength to straighten the embryonic petals and throw off the shell. Almost always, this is hindered by the thinnest film enveloping each hemp seed.
Throwing off the helmet means using tweezers or a match to remove the opened shell from the hatched offshoot of cannabis.
Sativa cannabis in its purest form is a very tall herb. Some varieties of cannabis can reach a height of 6-7 meters! But the truth is that there will be some cannabinoids in such tall bushes. The maximum height of high THC sativa marijuana that can be grown for medical and recreational use does not exceed 4 meters. For example, the seeds of variety 2046, with good care, grows to the size of a small tree, more than 3.5 meters tall, but its heads contain up to 25% THC!
The rhombic shape of the sativa bushes visibly emphasizes the difference with Indian hemp, forming an adult plant in the form of a cone.
Sativa cannabis blooms longer than Indian cannabis by about 20-25%. But these are absolute indicators, which in their pure form can only be observed in the laboratory conditions of large seed banks. In a practical grow, flowering cycle length will be more influenced by:
Moreover, all these elements of influence can be combined in different proportions. After all, there is a cloudy summer, or a hot and dry spring. These conditions in the out mode are difficult to correct.
For example, in a dry summer, you can regularly water marijuana bushes, but in abnormally rainy weather, only creative ingenuity will help out. Otherwise, you will need to re-order sativa seeds, and maybe even an autoflowering subspecies, to be sure to put in a particular season.
At the beginning of flowering, the sativa starts to form buds abruptly, but their volume increases slowly. Please note that it is the Sativa gene that gives the multi-colored coloration on the harvest.
To gain cone mass, it is recommended to increase the content of potassium and phosphorus in top dressing. These elements are responsible for the growth of marijuana buds and the density of trichomes.
At the flowering stage, marijuana goes through three stages, during which the percentage of psychoactive components changes, and this can be seen when examining trichomes in a cheap grower's microscope:
Using this simple device, novice gardeners can understand at what stage of flowering they need to harvest from the first grow in order for marijuana to have a specific effect: psychoactive or sedative.
TIP: try harvesting cannabis in batches, at different stages of flowering. After drying and curing marijuana, the effects can be compared.
