Dinafem are pioneers in cannabis seed conservation. After the company was formed in 2002, they soon realized that improvements were needed in storing seeds in paper/foil envelopes or in strong plastic containers. Ultimately, paper envelopes do not protect seeds from crushing or moisture changes. Also, clear plastic containers do not prevent light damage to seeds, and without proper sealing, they do not guarantee consistent moisture levels. Dinafem uses packaging that keeps seeds from being crushed and damaged by light; the outer metal container contains a transparent plastic container, which in turn contains the seeds. This vessel is a common laboratory vessel often used to store fluid samples; it has a lid that can be closed tightly, making it ideal for storing seeds. Dinafem's next advancement in seed preservation is micropreservation systems and temperature and humidity control. The temperature is easily controlled through refrigerators, which are commonly used by both distributors and retailers to ensure seed freshness and viability. Humidity control is just as important as temperature control, and more difficult to control. It changes more often, mainly depending on temperature changes. During storage prior to sale, all Dinafem seeds are kept in a refrigerated environment. This helps maintain a constant temperature. Inside the packages, Dinafem uses a micro-preservation system to manage moisture levels. A small amount of color-changing silica gel is added to the seeds. Although the lids of the jars are tightly sealed and no moisture can enter or evaporate, the color-changing silica gel indicates that excess moisture has entered, turning blue from orange when it is absorbed. If the gel remains orange, you can be sure that any seeds you purchase from Dinafem have been professionally stored at the correct moisture levels.
