Dutch Passion is one of the oldest cannabis seed companies in the world and also one of the few original seed companies left. We offer our customers a wide range of classic marijuana strains as well as a number of great new strains. In addition, we offer both regular and feminized seeds. We started in the 70s and in 1987 Dutch Passion was officially registered as a seed sales company.

Our legendary marijuana strains are as popular today as they were in the 80s and 90s. Most of these strains are available as both regular and feminized seeds. early years
The Dutch Passion seed company was officially registered in Amsterdam in 1987, but the company's roots date back to 1972, when Dutch Passion's founder, Henk Van Dalen, started growing cannabis in Holland for his own needs. Henk studied biology for 6 years at the University of Amsterdam from 1970 to 1976. At the same time, he took courses in pharmacology and studied the effects of hallucinogens and other drugs. In addition to studying at the university, Henk read a lot of additional literature and soon became one of the most famous cannabis growers in the world.
Henk used hemp seeds imported from Thailand and Nigeria. He began crossing these plants with other cannabis strains he had purchased from growers he knew. His reputation grew steadily and it soon became clear that the quality of the hemp grown from Henk's seeds was much higher than the quality of the hemp imported to Holland from Asia, Africa and other countries of the world. In the early 80s, Henk offered small quantities of seeds to other cannabis growers. Passion #1 (then known as Amstel Gold) had 18% THC and was in no way inferior to the best and extremely popular Pakistani cannabis strain Chitral at the time.
This was an important time in the history of cannabis. People began to realize that high-quality marijuana no longer needed to be imported from abroad. The early work of Henk and other cannabis growers showed that anyone could easily grow their own cannabis plants from the right seeds, the quality of which would be as good as cannabis imported from traditional cannabis producing countries. Thus, “the seeds were sown” and more and more people began to grow cannabis at home.
Hank continued his work. In 1988 he opened a coffeeshop called "Homegrown Fantasy" (fantasy of his own production). It was the first coffeeshop in Holland (and therefore in the world) that sold only cannabis grown and processed in the Netherlands. This coffeeshop now has a different owner and has nothing to do with Dutch Passion. Henk's reputation continued to grow after his original Haze/Skunk strain was awarded the High Times prize. In those days (1992), this prize was not awarded to seed companies, but to coffee shops that sold cannabis seeds to hemp growers.
It eventually became clear to Henk that people who smoke marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes could grow cannabis plants from seeds. Today, growing your own cannabis is becoming more and more common, but in the 80s, the idea that growing cannabis at home would become widespread was considered quite radical. By that time, Henk had already accumulated enough knowledge about the cultivation of cannabis and in 1987 he created the Dutch Passion seed company. His goal was to provide customers with the very best cannabis seeds, and this principle is at the heart of the Dutch Passion concept to this day.

Feminized seeds.
One of Henk and Dutch Passion's most significant contributions to home growing was the creation of feminized seeds in the 90s. For ordinary cannabis growers, the creation of feminized seeds has become a very important innovation. Thus, growers no longer had to maintain a permanent home to grow mother plants. In addition, it was no longer necessary to turn to familiar cannabis growers in order to get plant cuttings. Cannabis growers who grew cannabis at home did not want to grow a large number of plants just to get a few female plants. According to our clients, the main reason for growing cannabis is to grow their own cannabis plants for medicinal and relaxation purposes. In addition, our customers have told us that they do not want to grow more plants than they need and therefore feminized seeds play a very important role for them. Our clients have also told us that they do not want to grow a mother plant every year for 52 weeks in order to grow cannabis from cuttings. Growing cannabis from feminized seeds has allowed cannabis growers to save on energy costs, as they no longer have to spend extra electricity on growing and caring for mother or male plants. Thus, the creation of feminized seeds has had a significant impact on growing cannabis at home. Three books were influential in enriching Henk's knowledge of cannabis cultivation: The Marijuana Growing Guide (1978) by Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal, Marijuana Botany (1981) by Robert Connell Clark, and Marijuana Growing indoors” (1983) by Jorge Cervantes. Rosenthal's comments on the possibilities of female seeds were of particular interest to Henk, who always tried to make growing marijuana at home easier and more convenient.
The idea of creating feminized seeds was often discussed, but no one was sure if it was possible or not. Henk noticed that if a female cannabis plant is left to grow long enough, it will usually produce male plants by the end of its life. These male plants, in turn, produce "female" pollen. The resulting seeds then grow into female plants. Henk began to develop this method by methodically studying the various developmental stages of cannabis plants. He noticed that if the female plants were left to grow long enough, almost all would tend to produce a small number of male flowers. This is the natural survival mechanism of cannabis plants, which allows them to create seeds even in the absence of male plants. Hank still remembers his first experiment, when he first collected "female pollen" and pollinated a small number of female plants. After that, he collected and germinated 50 seeds. All of these seeds grew into female cannabis plants and it was a historic moment for Henk and Dutch Passion. The first feminized seeds sold out very quickly, and the exceptional popularity of these seeds led to a sharp increase in demand for them. Hank's next challenge was to find a way to produce large amounts of "female pollen" which would in turn lead to the production of a significant amount of feminized seeds to meet the growing demand. To solve this problem, Henk used his knowledge of biology. He began experimenting with different types of vegetables, such as cucumbers. Plant growth regulators, as well as other simpler methods, can be used to alter the morphology and physiology of plants without disturbing the normal development of female plants. Hank did the necessary research and eventually discovered a way to produce large quantities of pollen, which in turn led to an increase in the production of feminized seeds to meet the growing demand for them from cannabis growers.
Today, feminized seeds make up the majority of the seeds sold. The seed feminization process has been improved and is now exceptionally reliable and stable. Most seed companies only offer feminized seeds.
Although Dutch Passion invented feminized seeds, we still offer regular "non-feminized" seeds, which make up about a third of the total number of seeds in our sales range. This is done so that customers can experiment, crossbreed different strains and create their own cannabis strains. Most of Dutch Passion's seeds are feminized, but we still sell regular seeds for those customers who are interested.

Autofeminized seeds
Over the past few years, Dutch Passion has invested a lot of money and effort into autofeminized cannabis seeds. Autofeminized seeds grow into adult female plants in about 10 weeks, making them an effective and convenient alternative to traditional cannabis strains. The quantity and quality of marijuana grown from such seeds is not inferior to traditional varieties of cannabis. The light cycle for growing autofeminized seeds indoors is 20 hours of light and 4 hours of darkness. When growing these seeds in a greenhouse or outdoors, excellent results can be achieved. Autofeminized seeds can be grown outdoors even during the very short summer period, which is why they have become one of Dutch Passion's most popular and best selling seeds. Since 2010, the popularity of autofeminized seeds among cannabis growers has skyrocketed. The development of autofeminized cannabis genetics is a dynamic process, so we will continue to improve our range of autofeminized cannabis seeds.
Unlike normal feminized conventional varieties, auto-feminized cannabis plants start flowering automatically, regardless of the light cycle. This means that when growing such seeds indoors, the light cycle can remain the same during the entire growing period of autofeminized plants, namely 20 hours of light. Traditional cannabis strains need 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness to flower. When growing autofeminized plants indoors, they only start to bloom based on their age, and most autofeminized varieties are usually ready to harvest 10 weeks after germination.

According to Dutch Passion, all marijuana has a medicinal effect. Some strains, however, such as Ortega Indica, are especially useful for growers who grow marijuana for medicinal purposes. In 2012, Dutch Passion announced it was partnering with The CBD Crew to create strains with high levels of CBD. We know that hemp is a plant that is used for a variety of purposes. Mostly, people smoke marijuana for relaxation, but the use of cannabis for medical purposes is becoming more common. Although a large amount of research should be done to explore the medical effects of this plant, we know that a large number of people suffering from various diseases benefit from the use of cannabis.
The international movement for the regulation and legalization of marijuana is becoming more and more popular, and we are convinced that very soon people will be able to freely use cannabis in civilized countries. Cannabis is very important, which is why we offer cannabis seeds to our clients so that everyone can grow their own marijuana. Other hemp products
In 1994, Henk opened the first cannabis store in Holland called "Green Lands". This store sold, among other things, hemp fabrics and clothes, hemp burgers, hemp oil, and hemp seeds. Hemp burgers are one of Henk's own inventions. The cannabis seeds offered in this store were very different from the cannabis seeds that Dutch Passion offer today. The seeds sold in the Green Lands store were collected only from those plants that did not contain THC substances. Hemp (hemp fiber) is one of the most durable fibers in the world, and hemp oil is one of the most nutritious and healthy oils in the world. Currently, the Green Lands store no longer exists, so all our attention is directed to the development of Dutch Passion.
