On Tuesday, June 7, a significant event happened in Ukraine - the Cabinet of Ministers approved a bill on the legalization of medical marijuana for the treatment of serious diseases. This was officially announced by Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko. This document must now be supported by the Verkhovna Rada, but given the special situation in the country, a positive result should appear in the coming weeks.
The main provisions of the bill
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine proposed to introduce licensing for the cultivation and processing of medical marijuana for domestic producers. But more important is the lifting of the ban on the scientific research of the plant of the genus Cannabis. At the same time, Viktor Lyashko emphasized that legislative innovations relate specifically to medical cannabis, which seriously differs in composition from a narcotic plant.
More than a year ago, three drugs from hemp were admitted to the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine for the treatment of especially serious diseases. But this decision was flawed, since the cost of one package of imported medicine reached 2,000 US dollars. Although cheap European products with cannabidiol can now be bought in Ukraine via the Internet. Meanwhile, as Ukrainian social activists, such as Dmitry Sherembey, have repeatedly noted, such medicines can be successfully produced by domestic enterprises.
